This apprenticeship is suitable for both, ‘in-house’ security operatives (direct employees) who usually do not need a Security Industry Authority (SIA) licence to provide security services, and for employees who work for sub-contractors, who are providing security services and do need an SIA licence.

To see whether you’re eligible for this apprenticeship, you will need to complete a skill scan as part of the initial assessments, to check your knowledge prior to starting. This also ensures that individuals with an SIA licence are starting at the correct apprenticeship level based on their current competency.

Entry Requirements

Down to the discretion of individual employers but typically includes:

• Level 1 English and Mathematics, or equivalent (Can be completed during the apprenticeship)

• 16 or over

• Not in Full-Time Education

All apprenticeship standards cover three overall sections, these being Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours. Each of these areas is associated with a specific standard and covers topics that are relevant to that industry and profession. The core topics covered for the Lean Manufacturing Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship are below.

Knowledge

• Health & Safety: Understanding relevant regulations and safe practices

• Environmental: Knowledge of compliance procedures and systems (e.g., ISO 14001).

• Production: Understanding roles, responsibilities, and customer delivery targets (e.g., JIT).

• Lean Manufacturing Operations: Adherence to SOPs and development of lean processes.

• Quality Control: Monitoring process equipment and adhering to standards (e.g., ISO 9002).

• Problem Solving: Effective use of tools and methods to resolve production issues.

  Continuous Improvement: Identifying ways to enhance safety, quality, cost, and efficiency.

• Communication: Effective information sharing methods in manufacturing (e.g., oral, written, electronic).

• Work Place Organisation: Maintaining a safe and efficient workspace (e.g., 5s, process ownership).

The training is a blended learning delivery model, which occurs on the job during working hours. A structured learning and assessment plan is put in place to test core components of the course along the way.

This consists of:

• 1-to-1 monthly meeting: Approx. two hours with a GLP Trainer (face-to-face or telephone)

• Online learning courses and/or group sessions

• Building an electronic portfolio of work-related evidence

• Maths and English Level 2 (if not previously achieved)

• 6 hours a week spent working towards your apprenticeship.

• End Point Assessment by an external examiner to complete the qualification, consisting of a resourcing project assignment and a professional discussion
