This specialised programme merges the Level 5 Operational Management Apprenticeship with a choice between the ILM Level 5 Certificate in Management and the IWFM Level 4 Award in Facilities Management, offering a tailored educational pathway that enriches leadership and managerial capabilities.

This comprehensive apprenticeship equips participants with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to effectively manage and develop their teams and projects. Apprentices will learn to plan and monitor workloads meticulously, manage resources efficiently, and navigate the complexities of facilities management and risk management.

The curriculum of this bespoke package covers a broad spectrum of leadership and management areas crucial to the facilities management sector. These include:

Facilities Management: Apprentices gain insights into optimising the performance and sustainability of physical workplaces.

Risk Management: This component focuses on identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within organisational operations to ensure safety and compliance.

This course is suitable for current or aspiring Facilities Specialist Operators or Departmental Managers. This course will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge to construct a well-managed project.

Entry Requirements

Down to the discretion of individual employers but typically includes:

Level 1 English and Mathematics, or equivalent (can be completed during the apprenticeship)
16 or over
Not in full-time education

The training is a blended learning delivery model, which occurs on the job during working hours. A structured learning and assessment plan is put in place to test core components of the course along the way.

This consists of:

1-to-1 monthly meeting: Approx. two hours with a GLP Trainer (face-to-face or telephone)
Online learning courses and/or group sessions
Building an electronic portfolio of work-related evidence
Maths and English Level 2 (if not previously achieved)
6 hours a week spent working towards your apprenticeship.
End Point Assessment by an external examiner to complete the qualification, consisting of a resourcing project assignment and a professional discussion.

To attain the qualification, you will undergo an assessment throughout your apprenticeship, culminating into a final evaluation known as the End Point Assessment (EPA), which can get you a result of a Pass, Distinction, or Fail.

Moreover, the apprentice must have completed the following gateway requirements prior to beginning their EPA:

Obtain a Functional Skills Qualification (if applicable).

End Point Assessment Gateway:

The Facilities Specialist Operative or Departmental Manager EPA is administered by Highfield Qualifications, our designated End Point Assessment organisation (EPAO).

The EPA process commences once the employer confirms that the apprentice consistently meets or exceeds the standards outlined in the occupational standard.

The employer must confirm that they think the apprentice:

Is satisfied the apprentice is consistently working at, or above, the level of the occupational standard
Accumulate a portfolio of evidence demonstrating their competencies and efficiency

End Point Assessment:

EPA's typically takes about 5 months and apprentices are required to complete:

Professional Discussion: Based upon a portfolio of evidence

Presentation: With a Q&A section about the project

The combined score of these methods will provide an overall final grade for the apprenticeship.
