Facilities Management Supervisors play a crucial role in the smooth functioning of any organisation by combining resources and activities effectively. On a day-to-day basis, these supervisors ensure a safe and efficient working environment, which is fundamental to maintaining high performance in any business, regardless of its size and scope.

The core activities in this role include organizing and delegating tasks, finding innovative solutions to problems, and implementing risk assessment plans to safeguard against potential issues. This dynamic role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities such as property strategy development, space management, overseeing communications infrastructure, building maintenance, administrative duties, and contract management.

Our apprenticeship programme provides aspiring Facilities Management Supervisors with the comprehensive training and practical experience needed to manage these diverse tasks effectively. Through this programme, apprentices develop the expertise to create efficiencies and add value in FM, preparing them to meet the challenges of this fast-growing professional discipline with confidence.

This apprenticeship is suitable for someone currently working in Facilities Management or looking for a new role in it. It prepares an individual for managing a facilities management service, or a group of services, which can be labelled as ‘hard’ (estate/building management) or soft (catering/cleaning/administration/security/health and safety).

All apprentices will be required to supervise others; to understand the contractual requirements and service delivery targets between their employing organisation and the client/customer to achieve service targets. The apprentice will have to provide customer service skills and be proactive in finding solutions to problems.

Entry Requirements:

Down to the discretion of individual employers but typically includes:

Level 2 English and Mathematics, or equivalent (can be completed during the apprenticeship)
16 or over
Not in Full-Time Education

The training is a blended learning delivery model, which occurs on the job during working hours. A structured learning and assessment plan is put in place to test core components of the course along the way.

This consists of:

1-to-1 monthly meeting: Approx. two hours with a GLP Trainer (face-to-face or telephone)
Online learning courses and/or group sessions
Building an electronic portfolio of work-related evidence
Maths and English Level 2 (if not previously achieved)
6 hours a week spent working towards your apprenticeship.
End Point Assessment by an external examiner to complete the qualification, consisting of a resourcing project assignment and a professional discussion.

To attain the qualification, you will undergo an assessment throughout your apprenticeship, culminating into a final evaluation known as the End Point Assessment (EPA), which can get you a result of a Pass, Distinction, or Fail.

Moreover, the apprentice must have completed the following gateway requirements prior to beginning their EPA:

Obtain a Functional Skills Qualification (if applicable).

End Point Assessment Gateway:

The Facilities Management Supervisor EPA is administered by Active IQ, our designated End Point Assessment organisation (EPAO).

The EPA process commences once the employer confirms that the apprentice consistently meets or exceeds the standards outlined in the occupational standard.

The employer must confirm that they think the apprentice:

Confirms that they are ready to take their EPA

Submit a 500 word project proposal for the project: report with presentation and questions

Submit a portfolio of evidence for the professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

End Point Assessment:

EPA's typically takes about 3 months and apprentices are required to complete:

A report with presentation and questions: A project involves the apprentice completing a significant and defined piece of work that has a real business application and benefit
Professional discussion underpinned by a portfolio of evidence: An assessor and apprentice have a formal two-way conversation. This gives the apprentice the opportunity to demonstrate the KSBs mapped to this assessment method.

The combined score of these methods will provide an overall final grade for the apprenticeship.
